It is at the core of PhotoPhilanthropyʼs mission to drive social change and address critical social and environmental issues by supporting international collaboration between photographers and nonprofits. PhotoPhilanthropyʼs exhibitions, awards, and grant programs are the tools by which we facilitate that collaboration with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of vulnerable individuals, families, and communities.
1. PHOTOPHILANTHROPY ACTIVIST AWARDS
The Activist Awards recognize high-quality documentary photography done on behalf of nonprofit organizations. Annually, we solicit experts in the field to judge entries submitted by professional, amateur and student photographers. Photographers who are accepted to the Activist Awards have their own page posted to our website and become part of our growing database. With the Activist Awards, we aim to engage, reward and support established and emerging photographers committed to social change.
2. EXHIBITIONS
For PhotoPhilanthropy’s exhibition program, we curate a selection of the most compelling photographs from those that have been submitted to the PhotoPhilanthropy Activist Awards or Grant Program. The images in the exhibition represent local and global collaborations between nonprofits and photographers. PhotoPhilanthropy exhibitions serve as a catalyst to open minds, alter entrenched behaviors, and engage viewers in dialogue and action around critical social and environmental issues.
3. GRANTS
The PhotoPhilanthropy grant program provides resources, education and support for photographers and nonprofits who would like to work together to produce a visually compelling story about a critical social or environmental issue. Through the grant program, PhotoPhilanthropy aims to facilitate the production and distribution of excellent visual stories, raise awareness for critical issues, and inspire action. Currently, the grant program awards a series of $1,000 grants to student photographers who are working with nonprofit organizations. Please stay tuned for more information as we develop this program.
As part of all of our programs, we aim to educate nonprofits and photographers around best practices and strategies for visual storytelling and outreach. By providing nonprofits and photographers with tools and resources for excellent visual storytelling, we aim to generate support and awareness for the most critical issues in the world today.
