For the youth of Uganda, survival alone can seem an insurmountable task. Compromised by anti-government conflict, policy and unavailability of education, Uganda’s youth stand at the brink of self-sustenance with a great deal of obstacles in their path.
Since 2007, Abaana has run programs throughout Uganda that are geared toward rehabilitation, education and the housing of street children and children at risk. They fund an orphanage, a school and help children receive medical treatment in Kampala. Abaana hopes, “to see the children in Africa have their needs met, their rights upheld and their dreams fulfilled through raising awareness.”
Members of another Ugandan based organization introduced me to Abaana a few months ago. I had been spending a lot of time with many street children and organizations that facilitate food and housing for them. During this time I heard a lot about Abaana and got in touch with their manager in Uganda who linked me to their staff in the UK. They asked if I could produce some portraits for their vouchers to help them raise funding. The vouchers will be distributed around Christmas.
