Next Generation Nepal (NGN) is one of the few, if not the only, non-profit organizations in Nepal actively working to reunite trafficked and displaced children with their families.
During the height of the civil conflict in Nepal numerous organizations were founded to care for trafficked and displaced children in Kathmandu. Many of these organizations offer quality care for these children and provide a good education, unfortunately a lot of the children rarely if ever see their families again.
NGN strives to achieve the best of both worlds, providing the kids with a secure place to live and quality education while keeping them in close contact with their families and relatives. Until recently this was accomplished through letters and regular trips home during festival times. However, NGN recently opened a new children’s home in their birthplace, the remote mountain region of Humla. The children now live near their families, while still getting a decent education in the district headquarters.
I chose to work for NGN because I believe in their mission and principles and I feel that a family should not have to make the impossible choice between a future for their child and having that child in their life. Watching NGN take carefully calculated steps to improve the situation for these families was wonderful and is a great example of how real sustainable change happens.
