Blue Planet Network’s mission is to unlock the creativity and capacity of the global community to solve the safe drinking water crisis. They make a unique contribution to the water, sanitation and hygiene sector by improving program effectiveness and encouraging sustainability at every stage of a program’s “life cycle.” They strengthen the work of all participants working for safe drinking water – NGO’s, funders, individuals who serve as monitors, the general public and the local communities in need of clean water. BPN doesn’t make the program, it makes the program better.
I chose Blue Planet Network (BPN) because of their unique approach which gives me the capacity to help many organizations at once and access to specific organizations where I can have a more direct impact.
Through BPN I met Kristen Kosinski of The Samburu Project (TSP) which collaborates with communities to provide clean, safe drinking water which becomes the foundation for further development including education, healthcare, income generation, and women’s empowerment.
In September I traveled to Kenya with Kristen. Meeting her and the TSP crew has been a life changing experience. To see how greatly they affect the lives of so many people is a huge inspiration.
Through a monumental team effort lead by Kristen, we put together an exhibition, book, and other items, which has already help raise $50,000 which will go to digging more wells and community development programs. It will now travel across the country hopefully recreating the success we saw in Los Angeles.
